When you represent Bruce Lee, what do you see? Most likely, it will be a scene from the movie, in which he with the help of a series of lightning strokes of kung fu gang of bad guys win.
Less likely that you imagine a man, peacefully reading a book on philosophy. Nevertheless, this version of Bruce Lee is as true as that to which we are accustomed. He really was an avid bibliophile.
Reader's Life of Bruce Lee
Bruce Lee was always full of energy, and at a young age never sat still. And yet there was one thing that could calm him and keep his attention for a few hours - it's comics (especially kung fu).
All his spare time was devoted to reading and visiting bookstores. Before the kung-fu took over his life, he even wanted to open his own bookstore.
In college, Lee became interested in philosophy and psychology. He did not just read hundreds of books, but also made a lot of notes, carefully emphasizing favorite ideas (sometimes even with a ruler) by leaving comments on the fields and writing your favorite passages in the notebook. Bruce Lee was not a mere consumer of texts, he is actively process information and form their own view of things.
After college, reading has become an integral part of his everyday life. He never went to work from 9 to 17, so he formed his schedule. In the morning he trained, ran and honed skills in the martial arts. The clock in the afternoon were devoted to reading or important calls. And in the evening he spent time with his family, he continued to train and took up a book again. Day by day he improved both his body and his mind.
Even in the tomb of Bruce Lee in Seattle there is an open book, carved out of marble. As told by his wife Linda, Bruce always carried a book, no matter where he went. Although this man is always on the right is known primarily for its film projects and innovative achievements in the martial arts, his love of reading has become the foundation on which his deepest formed values.
