Each year service Backblaze Backup copy publishes data on the statistics of failures of hard drives. We hope that this information will help you make the right choice when buying a drive.
Over the past year in the Backblaze data were collected on 73,653 breakdowns hard drives. It is noteworthy that the total percentage of breakdowns decreased slightly and amounted to 1.95% in 2016, while this figure was 2.47% in 2015 and 6.39% in 2014.
With regard to individual manufacturers, there is "distinguished" the WDC company, products which showed 3.88% of refusals. The second place company Seagate has appeared on the failure rate with the index of 2.65%. The Backblaze note that this figure is comprehensive and takes into account several factors, including the total number of investigated drives, the time of their use and other data. In addition, the report is a summary table for the period from 2013 to 2016. From it follows that the most unsuccessful model of all time is ST1500DL003 hard drive (Seagate) with a percentage of 90.92% of refusals.
Of course, these data are not exhaustive. They are constrained by only one data recovery service. But we hope that they can help you get an idea of the least reliable models of drives, which should be avoided.
