The course will introduce students to the art of Western modernism - one of the most exciting and controversial pages in the history of world art. Our focus will be on the European and American art scene. During the course, we will sequentially examine the most important trends in Western art from the turn of the 19th to the 20th centuries. until the 1960s We will talk about the world art capitals of the twentieth century - Paris and New York, as well as about the largest figures of modernism art: A. Matisse, P. Picasso, V. Kandinsky, P. Mondrian, M. Duchane, J. Miro, S. Dali, R. Magritte, J. Polloquet, M. Rothko, E. Warhol and many others. In addition to considering the artistic material itself, we will also touch on some of the most important theoretical and conceptual problems posed by the art of modernism.
Purpose of the course – to give students a systematic understanding of the main trends, milestones and masterpieces of the art of modernism, as well as to clarify the specifics of modernism in relation to the art of previous eras.
