BPMN: Business process modeling. Advanced level - course 25,500 rub. from IBS Training Center, training 16 hours, Date: February 26, 2024.

The BPMN standard, which appeared in early 2011, quickly and deservedly gained popularity among specialists involved in business process modeling.
The BPMN graphical notation is convenient for describing business processes of any complexity. In addition, the standard specifies a method for converting such a description into a machine-readable form, which allows ready-made models to be loaded directly into business process management systems.
But both BPMN models and the process approach have their limitations. For example, should you describe business rules as a chain of conditions using BPMN? Or how correct would it be to describe the activity of promoting a new product to the market in the form of a business process? And, in general, does the author of the model always correctly reflect the logic of a real business?
This course is a continuation of the course “REQ-038 BPMN Business Process Modeling, Basics” and is devoted to an in-depth study of BPMN and related standards. Much attention in the course is paid to rarely used notation elements (for example, errors that do not interrupt events, signals, escalation, etc.) and solving practical problems that most often arise in work business analytics.
The course will examine the combined use of three standards that the Object Management Group® (OMG®) consortium proposes to use to enhance the model's capabilities:
- BPMN standard – for graphical representation of the work flow of business processes;
- CMMN standard – for graphical modeling of business cases;
- DMN standard – for graphical representation of decision rules (business rules).
CMMN will allow you to describe situations in which the main emphasis is on a professional person who performs his activities in a changing and unpredictable business environment. Any attempt to force such an activity into the rigid framework of a pre-described process will inevitably make it ineffective, depriving it of the necessary flexibility and adaptability. DMN allows you to describe the logic of making business decisions in a convenient and compact form, and then automate many of these decisions, protecting them from the invincible “human factor”.
During the course, the mechanism for simulating business processes will also be considered, allowing you to solve the following problems:
- testing hypotheses regarding process changes;
- identification of bottlenecks that reduce productivity;
- estimation of the cost of a process instance;
- assessment of the workload of resources involved in the business process;
- determination of the actual execution time of process steps.
Any business process modeling tool that supports BPMN 2.0, DMN and CMMN can be used as a tool for performing practical exercises during the course. By default, the online modeling environment bpmn.io is used.
