Moscow Planetarium published astronomical forecast for December. This month, the length of the night in the Northern Hemisphere will be maximum, and the day - minimum. At the beginning of the month, the length of the day will be 7 hours 28 minutes, on December 22 - 6 hours 59 minutes, and by the end of the year - 7 hours 5 minutes. The main astronomical events are:
- December 13-14 We are observing the maximum effect of the Geminids meteor shower from the constellation Gemini. Visibility is expected to be favorable, with up to 120 meteors visible per hour.
- December 21-22 The Ursid meteor shower will peak from the constellation Ursa Minor. Due to the approaching full moon, the shower will be difficult to observe, and it will be noticeably more modest than the Geminids - 10 meteors are expected per hour.
- December 22 at 06:27 According to Moscow time, the moment of winter solstice will come - the minimum length of the day and the maximum length of the night. Starting from this point, the day will begin to slowly grow.
