The program is dedicated to introducing listeners to an important phenomenon in the political life of Western Europe and the United States: the strengthening of right-wing conservative sentiments and ideological and political trends in society, which are sometimes called right in the media and political polemics populism. Indeed, recent elections in several European countries and the United States have shown that the rise of right-wing populism has not ended. Centrist and social democratic political parties are experiencing a crisis and are unable to maintain their positions, and the center-right moves further to the right, falling under the influence of even more right-wing groups.
The program will focus on political events in recent decades in the United States as an important part of this larger process. Since the formation of the political course of the state in the United States is the prerogative of presidential power, the program will examine the period beginning with the administration of President Reagan, under whose charismatic leadership a rightward turn towards neoliberalism was carried out in the face of conviction, “there is no alternative,” and to the current President Trump, who has become the personification of the politics of right-wing populism and nationalism in the USA.
Purpose of the program – introduce listeners to the features of the modern US government, the principle separation of powers in the American version, the role of the institution of the presidency as the executive branch and its evolution. The program will pay attention to the consequences of the turn to the right in the politics of the American state under Reagan, the aggravation of the political confrontation between the Republican and Democratic parties, the deepening political divide in American society and the reasons for the election of Trump as president in 2016.
