Professional biography:
Christopher Rainbow is an artist, whose work spans illustration, printmaking, comics, publishing, curation and writing. Since 2016, he has worked as publisher and editor for Sputnikat, a risograph comics press, promoting emerging Russian and international comics artists, and experimental storytelling. He is currently working on two books to be published in 2020; World Cup Journal (with William Goldsmith) and Am I A Good Man Am I.

In teaching, Christopher encourages students to maintain regular experimental play through sketchbooks, emphasises the fundamental role of narrative in illustration, and believes in supporting students to find their own individual paths into the creative industries.

Professional biography:
Irina Troitskaya is a freelance illustrator and co-founder of Illustrators Union. She practiced her skills at the Udmurt State University, Faculty of Arts in Izhevsk, Russia. Later she entered the University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, England and got her Master's in Illustration. Now she works as a freelance illustrator and a tutor of Illustration course of British Higher school of Art and Design, Moscow, Russia.
Started to work professionally in the field of illustration in 2003, Irina mostly deals with editorials, advertising and book publishing. She has been commissioned by Elle, Hewlett-Packard, Alfa-Capital, Yandex, Leo Burnett and BMW – to name but a few. Her art works are in private collections in Russia, Europe, China, Argentina, USA and the United Kingdom.
Among Irina’s other interests there are contemporary practices within children’s book illustration, reexamination of cultural roots and application of traditional Russian arts and crafts to nowadays, modern visual language and its influence onto the ways of perception of reality and much more.

Foundation Year
— career guidance and search for your own creative language.
You have the opportunity to try yourself in different areas of art and design and make your choice further trajectory during the first year of study, if you have not yet decided which direction you want closer.
In the 1st year of the bachelor's degree (Foundation Year), students experiment with form and material, work on various projects, develop critical thinking and learn to solve problems assigned to them Problems. Foundation Year develops the ability to work independently and teaches you to come to an idea, rather than start with it.
Students devote the last four weeks of this stage to more in-depth acquaintance and study of two areas of art and design (of your choice) - fashion design, communication design, 3D design, interior design and architecture or modern art.
At this stage, students make a choice in the field of design and art in which they would like to develop in further higher education programs, and begin to become more deeply acquainted with the specifics of the chosen areas.
In parallel with specialized modules in art and design (where teaching is conducted only in English) - program 1 year includes disciplines taught primarily in Russian and necessary for the development of basic academic and social skills:
*Systemic and critical thinking;
*Teamwork and leadership;
*Physical Culture and sport;
*History of Russia, general history.
The first year of specialization will focus on mastering the concepts of narrative and storytelling in visual communication, developing character design, comics, mastering the basics of photography and video editing, and presenting the basic principles animation.

Adventures in Storytelling: Narrative, Technique, Teamwork;
History and Theory of Art and Design.
In parallel with specialized modules on the profile in a given year of study, students master disciplines common to the Design program:
*English for professional activities;
* Physical education and sports;
*Inclusive technologies in professional and social activities (conducted in Russian).
This year of the program will focus on understanding professional and industry challenges, commercial job requirements, and other aspects of applied graphics and animation.

In parallel with specialized modules on the profile in a given year of study, students master the general undergraduate Design discipline:
* Physical education and sports;
* Fundamentals of entrepreneurship in creative industries (financial literacy, legal framework, project management, individual professional development trajectories); *Pedagogy (conducted in Russian).
The final year of the program is devoted to creating a professional portfolio and working on a diploma project.
The diploma project is chosen individually by each student and provides an opportunity to show their skills and interests.
At the end of the year there is a final exhibition of works by BHSAD students, to which industry representatives and possible potential employers are invited.
