A course of 6 lectures on eternal mythological subjects. Let's look at the myths of the Ancient World, myths about time, space and history. Let's try to understand how myths influence our psychology with the help of Jung, Freud and Campbell. And let's end with modernity - we will understand that stories familiar from childhood surround us even now.

Myths of antiquity: Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome
During the lecture we will discuss:
- typology of myths: cosmogonic, heroic, eschatological and other myths;
- the mythology of the creation of the world, the emergence and development of humanity as a race;
- how people used to find meaning, and how heroic myths influence the modern world;
- features of myths of different peoples and civilizations: Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome;
- why myths were told, and what role they played in society.
Mythology of time and space: vision of history and boundaries of the world
During the lecture we will discuss:
- myths about time: cyclical and linear time, the golden age and the death of the gods,
- myths about space: center and periphery, axis mundi, flat earth and boundaries of the universe;
- how the idea of time and space influences the existence of states and the understanding of history;
- what distinguishes us from ancient civilizations, and what remains unchanged.
Psychology of Myth: Archetypes, the Hero's Journey and Repeating Scenarios
During the lecture we will discuss:
- psychology of myth, approaches and methods for analyzing myth;
- the image of the father and the Oedipus complex in Freud;
- mythological archetypes of Jung;
- "The Hero's Path" by Campbell;
- theories of Grove, Barth and others;
- how myths help overcome remorse;
- how they are related to our intrauterine existence;
- why the images in them are repeated among different peoples.
Myths about us and others: history, ideology and disasters
During the lecture we will discuss:
- what place do historical myths occupy in modern society;
- how mythology is related to ideology and propaganda;
- how myths about the origin of a nation appear: “Moscow is the third Rome”, “Russia has its own way” and others;
- how the self-awareness of a nation, people, our idea of others and others of us is formed;
- connection between mythology and ideology;
- how propaganda transmits myths;
- what is supranational identity using the example of the concept of the European Union;
- myths about empires, national tragedies, crises, disaster experiences;
- the concept of searching for a new identity using the example of post-Soviet states.
Myths about paradise: utopias of different countries and eras
During the lecture we will discuss:
- myths about the golden age and paradise, the distant islands of the blessed;
- main Russian utopias: Belovodye, Russian sectarianism, Russian cosmism;
- images of national utopias of different countries and eras;
- utopias and dystopias of the 20th century: communism, Reich, liberal utopias;
- why utopia can be perceived not only as extremely desirable and ideal, but also as extremely frightening;
- is there a future for utopian ideas in the 21st century: artificial intelligence, the conquest of other planets.
Myths around us: references and archetypes in popular culture
During the lecture we will discuss:
- why we love to wear brands and read gossip about show business stars;
- in which TV series characters you can recognize images from myths;
- what do Luke Skywalker and Jason, Morgenstern and Loki have in common;
- why millions of people trust the Google search engine and Apple gadgets;
- what Oxxxymiron and Danya Milokhin sing about.
