“Working in Photoshop and using it in the educational process and extracurricular activities” - course 18,000 rubles. from MSU, training 16 weeks. (4 months), Date: November 30, 2023.
Miscellaneous / / December 03, 2023
The course is intended for people who want to master the PhotoShop system. With its help, high-quality images are prepared for the websites of educational institutions, for published school publications, for design of stands, alumni albums, in the preparation of educational projects, preparation of extracurricular activities and many others cases. Studying Photoshop helps you understand the principles of encoding graphic information, that is, a question that is included in the Unified State Examination program in computer science.
The Photoshop course is based on extensive practical experience in the professional use of this system in publishing, as well as for preparing images for Web design. Questions related to the coding of graphic information are included in the Unified State Examination program in computer science. By studying techniques for working in Photoshop, students come to a deeper understanding of the principles of storing graphic information in computer memory, as well as techniques for processing it. In addition, Photoshop is one of the modern applied computer systems, the knowledge of which is highly valued in the labor market. In addition to basic knowledge, the course program includes questions regarding the use of Photoshop for WEB design, automation of work in the system, the use of different color models when processing images and etc.
Topic 1.
Basic properties of raster images
The concept of a raster image: raster, dot, color coding. The basic properties of raster images are considered: size, resolution, color characteristics, as well as operations for editing them. Crop the image. The effect of scaling and resizing an image on its quality. Ways to cancel commands (History palette). The concept of canvas, changing its size.
Topic 2.
Principles of creating a collage
The concept of collage is introduced. The principles of creating collages are considered: tools for selecting areas, copying operations. The Layers palette and features of working in it. Techniques for changing the geometric properties of layers (transformation) are studied. The purpose of the selection tools parameters is considered: alignment, adjacency, tolerance, edge feathering.
A difference is revealed in the modes of selecting areas (adding, subtracting, intersecting).
Topic 3.
Drawing in Photoshop
The tools and principles of drawing in the system and setting up tool parameters are discussed in detail. Types of fills are studied: solid, pattern, gradient. We look at different ways to select a color: using the color picker and using the Eyedropper tool.
Topic 4.
Working with texts
Two ways to enter texts. Text options. Features of the text layer. The possibility of bending text in accordance with one of the standard forms is being studied. Text horizontal and vertical. Applying effects above layers to a text layer. Create a layout group for a text layer.
Topic 5.
Accurate measurements
Using the example of creating a greeting card, the issue of layout in compliance with exact dimensions is considered. Using measuring rulers, guide lines, and a modular grid to accurately place objects and maintain their dimensions. Setting the ruler units, moving the reference point.
Align and distribute objects using guide lines, grids, alignment, and distribution operations.
Topic 6.
Outlines
Using outlines to highlight areas. Tools for working with contours for editing and moving them. Palette "Contours". Convert paths to selection and vice versa. Saving outlines along with the image.
Link paths to text: Create an outline from text and then convert it into a selection. Text along the outline.
Using outlines to draw. Filling a closed path and creating a border. Replenishment of the library of standard shapes.
Topic 7.
Complex selection
Techniques for difficult cases of separating objects from the background are considered: quick selection, magic eraser, background eraser. Cases of using a particular tool/mode for setting tool parameters are classified. Cases of the appearance of a border around the selected area are analyzed, and methods for its removal are considered. The selection editing commands (expand, shrink, blur, etc.) are discussed.
Topic 8.
Improving Image Quality
Image retouching. Examples of retouching using different tools: stamp, touch-up brush, spot touch-up brush, patch.
Students are shown how Photoshop builds a histogram of an image. Basic terms are introduced: shadows, halftones, lights.
Halftone images. Commands that work with image brightness and contrast.
- "Brightness and Contrast." Primitive ways to adjust brightness and contrast.
- "Levels". The concept of the light range, its narrowing and expansion. Analysis of image quality using its histogram.
- "Curves." Features of working with the brightness and contrast curve. Selecting a brightness range using the eyedropper, adjusting the selected brightness range. Adjusting contrast in the Curves command window.
- Brightness and contrast editing tools
- The "black and white point" method.
- "Lights and Shadows"
Color images. RGB and CMYK color models. Numerical characteristics of the selected color. Alpha channels. View channels in black and white and color. Commands that correct the color characteristics of an image.
- "Color Balance". Image tone correction. Clarification of the concept of complementary colors.
- Color correction using Alpha channels.
- A precise color correction method that uses a reference to a known color.
- The "black and white point" method.
- Team "Options"
- Red Eye Tool
- Using Image Enhancement Layers Overlay
Selective color adjustment.
- "Hue/Saturation". The concept of the HSB color model. Selective color adjustment. Using an eyedropper to refine the color.
- "Color replacement" Visually highlighting areas to be color corrected in the command window. Possibility of precise selection of final color.
- Toning images. Methods for toning halftone images.
Adjusting sharpness. Sharpening commands - to improve image quality - and blurring commands - to create effects and remove grain or moire.
Mandatory order of operations when improving image quality.
Topic 9.
Color models. Lab color model
A comparative overview of color models and ways of encoding information in each model. Features of image representation in the Lab model. Principles of image processing in the Lab model. Using the Lab model to improve brightness and contrast, remove grain, and improve color characteristics.
Methods for converting a color image to halftone. Comparative analysis.
Topic 10.
Masks
Types of masks in Photoshop: layer mask, alpha channels, quick mask, vector mask. Features of working with masks. The relationship between masks and selection. Implicit examples of using masks: fill and adjustment layers, the “paste inside the selected area” command. Create a panoramic photo using a layer mask. Complex practical tasks are performed using masks.
