How to avoid becoming a victim of a pathological perfectionism

Creative success is inextricably linked with perseverance. At least, so says the greatest animation director Hayao Miyazaki. You must have seen and remember his creations - the animated film "Howl's Moving Castle," "Princess Mononoke" and, of course, the legendary "Spirited Away."
In the book Turning Point 1997-2008 Miyazaki continues the story of his career, and also describes the psychological characteristics of creative activity.
Creating a movie - it's a constant regret about done. When we look at the films, we see in them only flaws, omissions. We may not be able to complete the work from a position of mere spectators. I never had a desire to revise his own films. If I do not start work on a new picture, you'll never be free from the curse of the last film. I say absolutely seriously. While I did not proceed to the new film, the last completed picture will slow me for another two or three years.
Creativity is not so much a pleasant process. Instead, it makes the experience a feeling of permanent failure. Fans of Miyazaki know that no one of his works, many of which are considered classics, can not be called a failure. However, a creative perfectionist like Miyazaki sees his creations only errors. The only way to continue to do it without regret - immediately and safely move to the next project after the completion of the previous one.
Miyazaki is not the only artist who avoids his own works. Many actors do not watch movies with his participation for the same reasons. For example, Johnny Depp told the BBC that avoid viewing his films.
I like to get the experience, enjoy the process, enjoy the work, but then, you know, if I needed to see myself - I would not want to see how these things turn into product.
Last year, Miyazaki made his last, he said, the film is called "The wind grows stronger."
