How to choose, drink and distinguish between wines - course RUB 3,900. from Level One, training 6 lectures of 2 hours, Date: November 29, 2023.
Miscellaneous / / December 01, 2023
You can communicate with wine in different ways. You can understand the regions and vineyards, look for rare wines from Morocco and China, and measure the temperature of the wine with a thermometer. Or you can simply find your favorite wine and enjoy a glass with dinner - even without all this special knowledge. We are launching a course for everyone who wants to get more pleasure from every sip. Let's learn how to choose the best wine for the money you have, how to serve different wines correctly and how to carry on conversations about aromas and tannins. We won’t delve too deeply into the theory - knowledge about regions, styles and production will be useful in choosing “your” wine among other bottles.

“The wine history of a country is a reflection of the history of the entire nation through portraits of individuals and unique terroirs. The wine in your glass is a journey through time and space, it can tell the most exciting stories, of course, if you are attentive enough to hear them."
Lectures last 2 hours and take place on Thursdays at 19:30. Connect online to ask questions to an expert, and if you don’t have time, the recording of the lectures will be saved forever.
How to choose a wine you'll fall in love with based on variety and region
The aroma and style of wine changes all the time: the berry in the vineyard has one, but in the glass it is completely different. During the lecture we will figure out how grape berries can produce such varied and vibrant wines.
The main thing about whites: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Grigio
Why is one chardonnay thin and sonorous and smells of peach, while another is thick and creamy, with the aroma of fresh bread? After the grapes are harvested, the creativity of the winemaker begins, who can change them beyond recognition. Let's learn more about how white wines are made, in which regions you should look for them, and get acquainted with the main white varieties.
The main thing about reds: cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir and syrah
Red wines can be very different: from powerful Syrahs “for steak” to delicate, almost transparent pinot noirs. During the lecture we will learn what the thickness of grape skins affects and why aging in oak is so important for red wines. Let's look at red wines using the 4 main varieties as an example and find out how to choose a bottle of red for the evening.
The main thing about sparkling drinks: champagne, prosecco and Asti
Not all sparkling wines are champagne. Let's figure out how bubbles appear in wine and what is worth trying besides Champagne and Prosecco.
Fortified, quiet, tannic: how to talk about wine
There is a lot of knowledge that needs to be sorted into shelves - we will deal with this in lecture. Let's repeat the main styles of wines from around the world and understand what you like.
Glasses, corkscrews and storage: how to drink wine
With the right actions you can significantly improve the impression of the simplest and most inexpensive bottle of wine, but with the wrong actions you can ruin even the most expensive and luxurious one. So in the last lecture we will learn how to serve wine correctly.
Online tasting with an expert
Together with an expert, we will taste 2 white wines of the same variety from different regions to feel the difference and fully enjoy the passing summer. At the tasting, we will learn how to hold a glass correctly, look at the color and capture the aromas. We’ll also practice talking about wine like a sommelier and using terms: you’ll try to explain which wine you liked best - and why
