For practicing musicians and sound designers
Systematize your knowledge. Learn how and why to use color when writing music. You will be able to make better compositions and reach a new level of work in projects.
Introduction
Meet the author of the course and his Chromatone design system. Find out what equipment is needed to teach students with different levels of training. You will understand how you can use musical instruments during the course.
The nature of sound and its perception
You will understand that music is based on mathematical principles. You will understand the basic physical parameters of sound: frequency, wavelength, acoustic spectrum and others. Learn what the speed of sound is and how frequency and wavelength are related. You will be able to distinguish the frequency of sound by ear and calculate the frequency from a given wavelength.
The nature of light and its perception
Learn what light is from a physics point of view. Study the peculiarities of light and color perception. Get acquainted with the color model and its types. Learn to create a new color from 3 components in Chromatone.
Ways to notate notes. Chromatone stickers
Learn the 7 basic notes. You will understand how to raise or lower a note using accidentals. Learn to read music on a stave, tablature format, or letter notation. You will be able to distinguish notes by recording format and arrange note stickers in Chromatone on a MIDI keyboard, synthesizer or ukulele.
Intervals
Become familiar with the 8 basic intervals, tone and semitone. Learn what the circle of fourths is and how it is organized in Chromatone. Learn to build intervals from a specific note, distinguish them by notation and determine them by ear.
Chords
Learn what a chord and seventh chord are and how to read them in letter format. You will understand how a triad is built and how open and closed chord forms differ. Learn to build chords from a specific note.
Modes and keys
Get to know mode, tonality, tonic, function, gravity and more. You will understand the difference between major and minor. Learn to determine mode and tonality by ear.
Rhythm. Pace. Duration. Dimensions
Learn what pulsation is and how it is related to rhythm. Get to know the durations: whole, half, quarter, eighth, sixteenth. Learn to determine the size of a musical fragment by ear and the BPM of a fragment in Chromatone.
Melody
You will understand the importance of melody in music and what its main types are. You will understand what a motive, phrase, theme, sentence and period are. Create a basic melody in Chromatone.
Harmony
Learn what harmony and accompaniment are. Learn the functions of chords and chord progressions. Learn to build and perform them on musical instruments.

Final project. Musical composition
You'll create a song using an instrument or MIDI keyboard.
