Despite the outputs of more and new updates to Java continue to discover new vulnerabilities that an attacker can be used. More recently, Apple released another updateDesigned to close the vulnerability, which allows to remotely execute code on the computer.
In light of such situations, many users wonder: do I need Java? Since it is not set in the latest version of OS X Java by default, it is reasonable to assume that an ordinary user can well do without this software, but is it?
The problem is that there are a decent number of popular applications, full-time job which is not possible without Java installed. These include super popular game Minecraft and Runescape, service for creating backups, CrashPlan, an extremely popular package Adobe Creative Suite also requires Java to run certain features. Common alternative to Microsoft Office and OpenOffice under the name NeoOffice also asked to Java to complete the work. Almost every user, despite the set of used software, faced with the need to install Java.
In any case, in order not to expose your system to unnecessary risk, you should not install Java to the moment when one of the applications that you want you will not offer to do it. But it may also happen that the list of applications used by you disappear those that require Java to run. In this case, you can always disable Java on your system. To do this, go to Utilities and select the Preferences Java there and uncheck used Java version. This procedure does not affect the work of the very OS X, along in case any application need Java, you will be notified.
You may want to disable Java in the browser only. Convenient option here is the concurrent use of the two browsers, one of which is Java enabled, and the other not. To disable Java in Safari, you need to go to the Security Preferences browser and uncheck Enable Java.
