This course integrates information of a geographical, economic, cultural and social nature into a single body of knowledge about the UK and the USA.

The regional studies course contributes to the assimilation of a system of knowledge about geography, the main stages of historical development, the psychology of the nation, social reality and culture of the country, as well as formation of regional and linguistic competence necessary for adequate proficiency in a foreign (English) language as a means of communication and professional training. The course is based on the principles of high information content of the subject, coordination through interdisciplinary connections with related sciences: geography, history, economics, culture, literature of the country of the language being studied and etc.

Module 1 – Stereotypes and perceptions of Great Britain. General information about Great Britain (country name, coat of arms, flag, geography, economy)

Module 2 - General information about the administrative, political structure of the World Bank, education and ethnic and religious composition

Module 3 - History of England from ancient times to the 17th century

Module 4 – History of Great Britain from the Wars of the Roses to the end of the 17th century

Module 5 – Great Britain from the early 18th to the early 21st centuries.

Module 6 – General information about the physical and economic geography of the United States, the political, administrative structure, educational system and holidays of the United States

Module 7 – History of the United States until the beginning of the 20th century. - Discovery and colonization of America. The emergence of the USA. Major events in US history of the 18th century.

Module 8 - USA. Main events of the 20th – early 21st centuries.
