This is one of the brightest starfalls of the year.
On the night of November 17-18, lovers of the starry sky will be able to enjoy the Leonid meteor shower. It will be possible to observe it with the naked eye and from anywhere on Earth.
The phenomenon is known for the fact that once every 33 years it reaches a severe storm, the peak of which can “throw out” hundreds or even thousands of meteors per hour, which is similar to real rain. They fly into our atmosphere at speeds of up to 70 km/s and burn up completely. But this year there will be no such intensity (the next “storm” will happen only in 2034).
Since the shower is expected to be of low intensity, you can count on 10-15 meteors per hour. At the Moscow Planetarium toldthat the starfall will be visible throughout the country, where the weather allows it. And cloudless skies are promised in Samara, Moscow, Naberezhnye Chelny and Krasnodar.
Scientists also added that from Friday to Saturday the Moon will be in the waxing crescent phase. This means that it will not interfere with the view.
