Miscellaneous / / November 14, 2023
The berries can be prepared whole or ground with or without sugar.
Frozen cranberries can be stored for up to eight months.
How to prepare cranberries for freezing
Carefully sort the berries. Discard rotten, limp and damaged specimens, and also remove leaves, twigs and other debris. Wash firm and whole cranberries thoroughly under cold running water.
Place the berries in a colander and allow excess liquid to drain.
Line a baking sheet or flat surface with a towel or napkins. Lay out cranberries in one layer and wait for it to dry.
To speed up the process, you can gently blot the berries with a napkin.
How to freeze whole cranberries
These berries are useful for making tea, cocktails, baking fillings and sauces. You can also put frozen cranberries in the refrigerator, let them thaw and eat them fresh.
What you will need
- Cranberry;
- plastic bags (regular or with a zip fastener) or plastic containers with a lid;
- Vacuumator - optional.
How to do
1. Make sure there is no moisture left on the berries after washing, otherwise they may stick together when frozen. If necessary, dry them a little more. Place the cranberries in bags or containers. Make small portions, enough to prepare one dish.
2. Lightly press the package to release excess air, tie it in a knot, close the clasp, or use a vacuum sealer. Alternatively, close the container tightly with a lid.
3. Store the cranberries in the freezer.
How to freeze pureed cranberries
Berry puree will make aromatic tea, fruit drink or an addition to porridges and pancakes. During the cooking process, add sugar to the cranberries to taste if you want the preparation to be sweeter.
What you will need
- Cranberry;
- deep bowl - optional;
- blender;
- sugar - optional;
- plastic containers with a lid.
How to do
1. Place the berries in a deep bowl or blender. At this stage you can add sugar. Start with a couple tablespoons and add more as you chop the berries, adjusting the sweetness to your taste.
2. Grind the cranberries with an immersion or regular blender until pureed.
3. Pour the resulting mass into plastic containers.
4. Close the containers with a lid and place the pureed cranberries in the freezer for storage.
