Their design will change noticeably.
Famous insider Steve Hemmerstoffer (OnLeaks) showed high-quality renders of the OnePlus Watch 2 smartwatch. Judging by the images, a strongly protruding platform for buttons will appear on the right side of the new product. The round design and metal frame will remain.
Another source found outthat they will ship with Wear OS 4, the operating system used in Google's wearable devices. Proprietary RTOS, under which it operates predecessor, did not meet the manufacturer's expectations.
OnePlus Watch released in 2021. And they were immediately criticized for their limited functionality. Users complained that this is actually an ordinary watch that can also measure heart rate.
Back then, OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau justified that instead of a long list of features, RTOS provides “smooth and reliable operation” and increases battery life. But these advantages were not enough for the device to become popular.
Switching to Wear OS will mean a significant increase in capabilities, as well as access to a wider range of apps and watch faces. It was previously reported that the new product will feature the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset under the hood. It will receive an enlarged 1.49-inch AMOLED display and two simple strap options - white and black. But the price and release date are still unknown.
