Enhanced privacy comes at the cost of connection quality.
on WhatsApp appeared hiding function IP addresses during calls. It is already available to all messenger users.
When activated, calls will be forwarded through WhatsApp servers, thereby hiding the user’s true digital identifier from interlocutors.
As the messenger developers note, most modern calling applications use a direct connection between participants. This ensures faster data transfer and better call quality. But this also means that participants need to know each other's IP addresses, which can give away approximate geolocation or ISP. Therefore, when using call relay, a noticeable decrease in communication services may occur, the company warned.
To take advantage of the new option, you need to go to Settings → Privacy → Advanced, and then click the toggle for “Protect IP address during calls.”
