Saturn's rings will disappear from view in 2025. But they will come back
Miscellaneous / / November 07, 2023
In 2025, Saturn's rings will disappear from view for some time. reported at NASA. This will happen due to a change in the tilt of the gas giant.
The rings are huge structures made of pieces of ice, stones and dust. They extend for 70-140 thousand kilometers. Moreover, the thickness of the brightest does not exceed 100 meters, which is why they “disappear” at a certain position.
Saturn's tilt fluctuates slightly toward and away from the Sun throughout its orbital period. The planet is now at an angle of 9 degrees relative to us. By March 23, 2025, this figure will be zero, which will make the rings invisible from our planet. But only for a few months.
Then they will begin to appear again - their lower side, which has been hidden from astronomers for many years, will gradually open, as well as the South Pole of the planet. It will reach its maximum inclination in 2032 - at an angle of 27 degrees. During this period, the rings will appear at their best.
