Google Meet for Android gets a new mode for calling on the go
Miscellaneous / / November 07, 2023
The mode will turn on automatically, and the interlocutors will not know about it.
In Google Meet on Android appeared new On-the-Go mode, which started testing back in the summer. It was developed for cases when a call needs to be answered on the road. The mode offers a simplified interface without distracting elements.
The app will use your smartphone's sensors to sense that you're on the move and prompt you to turn it on. If you do not respond to the offer within 4 seconds, it will turn on automatically.
The simplified interface offers access to the most important functions, but with larger buttons to make it harder to miss. The screen will show the number of participants who are currently speaking, as well as buttons for turning the microphone on/off, raising your hand and selecting a device for broadcasting audio.
“On the Go” automatically turns off data transfer from your camera to save traffic and smartphone power. At the same time, you will be able to view a video or a demonstration of the speaker’s screen.
On-the-Go mode will be available to all Google Meet users, both Workspace subscribers and free account holders. It is not yet known when this feature will be added to the iOS version of the application.
