Former Google engineers unveil fully autonomous robot vacuum cleaner Matic

Thanks to AI, it moves like a self-driving car and can be controlled using your voice.
Former Google Nest engineers Mehul Nariyawal and Navneet Dalal presented fully autonomous robot vacuum cleaner Matic. They say he moves around the house the same way most people do.
For navigation, the device uses five RGB cameras, rather than sensors, bumpers or lidars. Therefore, it processes not only space, but also things around. In theory, this makes it less prone to getting caught in high-pile carpets, wires, and other things on the floor.
The developers note that Matic can identify many more objects compared to popular models of robotic vacuum cleaners. And even classify them into dirty, clean and unknown.
In addition, it is capable of creating a three-dimensional map of the room. Combined with built-in artificial intelligence, this makes it possible to maneuver on the fly, as is the case with self-driving cars on city roads. During tests, it accurately moved from point A to point B 10 times out of 10.
The Matic is capable of both vacuuming and mopping. Moreover, computer vision allows you to identify different types of floors and autonomously switch from dry to wet cleaning, which prevents carpets from getting wet. Plus, it can collect spilled liquid.
Another unique feature is gesture commands. They have a built-in speaker and microphones, which literally makes it a voice assistant on wheels. The vacuum cleaner even understands commands such as “Matic, clean up there” or “Matic, go clean the bathroom.” And it can turn on independently to search for dirty places in the house. When this function is activated, it will go out “hunting” every two hours.
When its built-in container is full, it parks next to the trash can and sends a notification asking it to be emptied. The capacity of its bag is liter.
Matic can also work locally. That is, it does not require an Internet connection. The design also deserves special attention. It's a square device with large wheels and a retractable vacuum attachment, making it look like a WALL·E robot.
The vacuum cleaner is already available for pre-order on maticrobots.com. Now it is offered for $1,495 (≈139,000 rubles). After the full release, scheduled for March 2024, the price will rise to $1,795 (≈167,000 rubles).
