Juno probe captures Jupiter's creepy 'face'
Miscellaneous / / November 01, 2023
NASA Juno probe did new unusual photograph of Jupiter. On it you can see something like an elongated “face” of the planet. And it looks scary.
The filming took place on September 7, 2023, during the orbiter’s 54th flight over the surface of the gas giant. And in fact, it captures the swirling clouds and turbulent storms of the far northern reaches. Scientists call this part of the planet Jet N7.
The photo was taken from an altitude of about 7,700 kilometers. Since in this area there is a dividing line between the day and night sides of the planet, it may also seem that it literally dissolves against the dark background of space.
Jupiter's swirling clouds appear to form a frowning human face. Half of the image is in darkness on the night side of the planet, making it look like it's peeking out from behind a door.

In fact, this is a clear example of a visual illusion. pareidolia, which makes people see faces, images of animals and the outlines of other familiar objects where they are not there. This often happens in photographs from space. The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, for example, somehow
