From European horror to Men in Black.
There are just under two months left before the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and the creators are actively promoting the new film. Yes, director James Wan gave an interview Empire, in which he shared the sources of inspiration for the new film.
Wang turned to the works of the famous American stop-motion animation master Ray Harryhausen (“Jason and the Argonauts,” "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad") to create the mechanical squid Octobot, which Aquaman and Orm fight in trailer.
He was also inspired by European horror films like 1965's Planet of the Vampires. The first film had horror elements like a quick mention of the cannibal creatures from the Hollow, but The Lost Kingdom will have more of that. Wan promises that the film will have elements of retro horror from the 60s.
Along with horror films, buddy movies were on the list of inspirations. Wang drew on comedies like Tango & Cash and Men in Black to write the dynamic between Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson's Arthur and Orm.
The premiere of the film "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" is expected on December 20.
