We quickly talk about the benefits of this morning ritual so as not to interfere with your doze.
It is generally accepted that the best way to wake up in the morning is at the first sound of the alarm clock. Scientists from Stockholm University (Sweden) refuted this claim. Their study published by Journal of Sleep Research.
One of their studies is based on a survey of 1,732 people with an average age of 34 years. As it turned out, 69% of them at least sometimes used the snooze button or set several alarms at once. As a result, they delayed the rise by an average of 22 minutes. Some managed to sleep for another three hours after the first call. Among the latter there were more young respondents who considered themselves night owls.
Also, 71% said that they usually only delay getting up on weekdays. There are usually three reasons - a feeling of fatigue, a desire to wake up “softer” and because taking a nap is always pleasant.
In the second study, about 30 sleepers provided a saliva sample for hormone testing and completed a series of tests on memory and processing speed immediately after waking up. Participants were also asked to rate their sleepiness and mood in the morning, lunchtime, and afternoon.
And here are the results that will delight fans of “5 more minutes”: an additional half-hour dream or did not affect cognitive abilities people, or even improved them. The effect of the habit on stress hormone levels, mood and sleepiness was not obvious.
The results show there's no reason to stop napping in the morning if you enjoy it. In fact, it may even help people with morning sleepiness be more alert when they wake up.
