Windows 11 is used on 400 million PCs, but it is still a long way from Windows 10

According to sources close to Microsoft, Windows 11 is now used on more than 400 million active devices per month. By the beginning of 2024 there will be about half a billion of them, writes Windows Central authoritative portal.
Windows 11 has been on the market since October 2021, meaning that it took Microsoft exactly two years to reach the 400 million active device mark. This is significantly slower than Windows 10, which took just over a year to achieve this. And by the beginning of 2020, “ten” used on one billion PCs every month.
This difference in propagation speed is explained by different launch formats for systems. Windows 10 was a free update at launch for all Windows 8.1 computers and most Windows 7 computers. Moreover, the installer could be downloaded without payment only for a year (initially), which clearly pushed users.
With Windows 11, everything immediately went according to a different scenario, since the OS had high system requirements subject to the presence of a TPM encryption module. In fact, this put an end to updating PCs released earlier than 2018. And left behind were all those computers that were upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and 8.
As a result, Microsoft's internal expectations have been fairly modest, which is why the company is calling Windows 11's current growth a success.
