In Italy, they found the sealed “tomb of Cerberus” - the guardian of the underworld

A well-preserved sealed tomb was discovered in a suburb of Naples (Italy). It is decorated with various frescoes, one of which depicts Cerberus, a three-headed dog with a dragon tail from ancient Greek mythology. The burial was named in honor of this guardian of the underworld.

First, archaeologists noticed a wall that appeared to have been built using ancient Roman construction techniques. Behind it was a slab of volcanic tuff, which hid the burial chamber.

The occupant of the tomb still remains on his last bed, and various expensive objects are laid out around him. There is also an altar with libation vessels inside.

Scientists believe that the find is about 2000 years old. But they have not yet established the identity of the buried person.

Other frescoes that lavishly decorate the walls and ceilings of the tomb also depict mythological characters and scenes. For example, the 12th and final labor of Hercules, when he descended into the kingdom of the dead to catch a chthonic dog monster.

There are also ichthyocentaurs - sea deities with the upper body of a man, the front legs of a horse and the tail of a fish. Two such creatures with shields stand facing each other, and next to them are winged erotes from Aphrodite’s retinue.

Previously, burials have been found in this region that date back to the eras of the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire (510 BC). BC. - 476 g. AD). Their research showed that local residents of those times practiced both burial and cremation.
