Anti-counterfeit protection now available on iPhone 15 boxes
Miscellaneous / / September 25, 2023
You can't see it with a simple glance. Take note if you are planning to buy a new model.
Apple implemented a new protective mechanism in the iPhone 15 packaging - special inscriptions and QR codes that are visible only under ultraviolet light. This should help users quickly determine whether the smartphone in front of them is original or not.
A video demonstrating the new protection first appeared on the Chinese social network Weibo, which was then posted at X (formerly Twitter) insider Majin Bu.
This measure will make it possible to recognize not only non-original iPhones, but also used smartphones that unscrupulous sellers pack in new boxes.
It is not yet known whether similar protection will appear in the iPhone 14, 13 and SE, which Apple continues to produce even after the presentation of the iPhone 15.
Please note that you should not rely only on new codes and logos. They can and should be checked, but do not forget about standard precautions:
- Carefully examine the box, if possible compare it with the original box from another iPhone (you don’t have to hold it in your hands: a photo from the Internet will do, the main thing is to choose a reliable source).
- Check the serial number on the box.
- After purchasing, open the smartphone in front of the seller and check whether the serial number and IMEI in the settings match those indicated on the box.
We talked more about buying an iPhone from someone else in separate article — it is more applicable for used smartphones, but is also suitable for inspecting a new smartphone after unpacking.
