System chat bot, improved Explorer, upgraded Paint and more.
Microsoft has announced the next update for Windows 11, known as 23H2. It will be gradually distributed starting September 26th. Here are the main improvements.
Copilot
One of the key changes was the AI assistant based on artificial intelligence, Copilot. It will appear in the sidebar on your desktop. Requests can be typed in text or voiced.
The chatbot will allow system users to get answers to various questions, launch applications and use some of their functions. For example, it will help you quickly create a text message using data from your Outlook calendar or insert a screenshot into an Adobe application.
Microsoft assures that AI is already deeply integrated into the system, so at the start Copilot will be the most useful tool.
"Conductor"
The redesigned File Explorer file manager will have a more modern interface with large file thumbnails and a carousel interface that will display the latest files and favorite documents. Thanks to these changes, the program will better fit into the overall design of Windows 11, the company noted.
Windows Backup
The updated Windows Backup app lets you back up your PC whenever you want to move to a new device. This tool will automatically apply existing settings to the new PC. Pinned apps in the Start menu and taskbar will also be transferred, and all apps from the Microsoft Store will be automatically restored.
"Photo"
The basic photo viewing app will get an AI-powered feature that allows you to blur the background of your photos. It will be possible to adjust the blur intensity or even change the blurred areas.
"Scissors"
The Snipping Tool, with an update, will be able to detect text in screenshots and allow it to be shared across apps. This is similar to the copy text from images feature available on Android or iOS. Microsoft has also added the ability to automatically edit and hide emails and phone numbers in screenshots.
Paint
Paint application, as it was promised previously, will receive support for layers and transparency, including the ability to open and save PNG images. This will allow you to overlay some elements on others, combine them and duplicate them.
Ink Anywhere
Microsoft has also introduced an innovation for stylus users - the Ink Anywhere feature. It will allow you to write by hand in any input field, and the OS will convert what you write into text and use it where necessary.
Other changes include: built-in support for RAR and 7-Zip archives, improved volume mixer, automatic saving text in Notepad and a new settings menu “Dynamic Lighting”, which allows you to control the backlight of supported devices.
We are looking forward to this update next week.
