Yandex told how to improve geolocation accuracy in case of GPS failures on Android

On September 13, Yandex Maps and Navigator are releasing an update that will significantly improve the performance of geolocation, which has recently been experiencing problems, especially in the center of Moscow.

For the improvement to work, you need to perform several actions:

• enter developer mode in the smartphone settings and disable Wi-Fi request restriction;
• update the application to the latest version;
• turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Typically, limiting Wi-Fi requests is enabled by default for users. Because of this, the smartphone scans access points no more than twice a minute. If this restriction is removed, the device will scan them every 2-3 seconds.

And since Yandex Maps and Navigator are already able to read the user’s geolocation based on the nearest Wi-Fi access points - these steps will improve the accuracy of car navigation when GPS failures.

This solution is only relevant for smartphones with Android 10 and higher, excluding Huawei and Honor devices.
