Sony will find a new home for unwanted robot dogs Aibo

Plastic dogs that have served their purpose will get a second life.
Sony launched a new program that is designed to extend the life of the ERS-1000 Aibo robotic dogs. This is a relaunch of the 90s toy line that Sony released in 2018. 5 years after the release, many users began to cancel their subscription to Aibo Cloud Plan, which gives the robot additional functions. Now they have the opportunity to hand over the robots for “foster care.”
As part of the Aibo Rehabilitation Program, Sony will collect robots that are no longer needed from volunteers, test and repair them, and then transfer them to medical institutions and nursing homes. There they will get a second life, offering emotional support to patients and residents.
It is noted that the transfer will not be free: the institution will have to pay a certain amount for the gadget, which will be used for the restoration of other robots. The cost will depend on the condition of the Aibo received.
The program will be valid for a limited time and only in Japan. How do you like this initiative?
