Apple may ditch all silicone cases and accessories
Miscellaneous / / September 11, 2023
This could be announced at the iPhone 15 presentation on Tuesday.
How reports MacRumors, Apple is likely planning to stop producing silicone rubber accessories and fluoroelastomer, replacing them with products made from more environmentally friendly “materials of the following generations."
This decision will entail the disappearance from sale of official silicone iPhone cases with MagSafe, Sport Band and Solo Loop straps for branded watches, as well as AirTag Loop.
This news came after rumors that Apple has also decided to stop using leather. This may be announced on September 12 as part of the announcement of the new iPhone 15 smartphones. It is assumed that the new eco-material will be based on fabric. The line of accessories should be called FineWoven.
By the way, the Hermes brand is already removed all leather straps for Apple Watch from their website, which fully confirms the rumors. This will likely be presented as a concern for nature and a shift to more environmentally friendly materials to reduce the carbon footprint.
