How to determine the fullness of shoes
Miscellaneous / / September 10, 2023
You can use a formula or table.
What is leg fullness
The fullness of the leg is a value equal to the circumference of the forefoot at the most protruding points. This parameter is considered auxiliary when choosing shoes and allows you to find a pair that will be as comfortable as possible to wear. It is especially important to consider fullness when purchasing closed shoes made of dense and rigid materials.
What to remember when determining the fullness of shoes
- In a day your legs can swell, so it’s better to take measurements in the evening so that the shoes don’t press on you later.
- If you are choosing a winter pair and plan to sometimes add additional insulation to your feet, put on warm socks before determining the fullness of your feet.
- Since no two feet are exactly the same, try on both and go with the larger number.
How to determine the length and girth of the foot
What you will need
- 2 sheets of A4 paper;
- pencil;
- tape measure.
How to do
If you are taking measurements for yourself, call someone to help.
Place two sheets of paper on a flat, hard surface and place them on feet.
Place the pencil against your heel and keep it strictly perpendicular to the floor surface.
Outline the entire foot with a pencil.
Attach a measuring tape to the resulting drawing and measure the length of the foot - from the heel to the end of the longest toe. Write down this value.
Place a measuring tape under your foot. Measure its girth at its widest point. Write down the number.
Do all the manipulations with the second foot. Choose the one that is larger and use these values to determine the fullness of the shoe.
How to determine the fullness of shoes
1. According to the formula
It allows you to calculate the fullness of shoes as accurately as possible.
The formula looks like this:
Fullness = 0.25 × B − 0.15 × C − A
- A is a constant (17 for women, 16 for men);
- IN — foot circumference in millimeters;
- WITH — foot length in millimeters.
For example, the girth of a man’s foot is 260 mm, length is 300 mm. The calculation is: 0.25 × 260 − 0,15 × 300 − 16 = 4. This means that the fullness of the shoe is 4.
Indicators from 2 to 4 correspond to a narrow foot, 5–6 - medium, 7 or more - wide.
2. According to the table
It is not always possible to measure foot length. If you know the girth and foot size, completeness can be determined using the table. Find your size on the left, girth (or the closest value to it) on the right, and below you will see the fullness indicator. In Russia it is measured in numbers from 2 to 10, according to the British system - in Latin letters from B to K.
