New color palettes and sidebar elements, additional search options, quick access to company services, and much more.
In September, the Chrome browser celebrates its 15th anniversary. To celebrate this event, Google announced a major update to its desktop version for Mac, Windows, Linux and ChromeOS.
The appearance will change to match Material You's design language. Interface elements will become more rounded compared to the previous version. The developers also promise additional color palettes and new icons. According to their plan, all this should increase the readability of the content and make the browser more personalized.
As for the functionality, a more elaborate menu is expected for quick access to extensions, a built-in translator, a proprietary password manager and other company services. All of them will appear in the three-dot additional menu (in the upper right corner of the browser).
The changes to Chrome's top bar don't stop there. After the update, it will contain "All Bookmarks". There will also be a "Search with Google" feature that opens an additional window for viewing page information and related queries.
In addition, the developers announced an improved system for checking malicious sites. The browser was taught to scan them according to a special list that will be updated every 30-60 minutes.
Along with this, the Chrome Web Store will also change. It will include personalized recommendations, a separate category with AI-based extensions, and an Editors' Choice section. You can already look at the new catalog on the page Preview versions.
The updated Chrome is expected to go public in the coming weeks.
