Apple plans to release macOS Sonoma at the same time as iOS 17

iPadOS 17 will join them too.
For more than 4 years, Apple has standardly delayed releases of new versions of macOS until October or November, while iOS and iPadOS have been consistently released in September. But this year, the company wants to return to its roots and make the update of computers and smartphones at the same time. This is indicated by the progress of the development of the beta version of macOS Sonoma.
How noticed iSoftwareUpdates enthusiast, the seventh beta build was released at the end of August macOS Sonoma, whose code ends with "a". Traditionally, the final assemblies move in the reverse order of the alphabet: that is, “c”, “b”, and “a” come out in sequence. The closer the letter is to the beginning of the alphabet, the closer the build is to the release one.
For comparison, the seventh beta of macOS Ventura last year came out a week late and ended with an "f". But in the case of Mojave in 2018, the seventh beta also came out with an “a” ending, and this was the last year when iOS and macOS versions were updated simultaneously in September. Here's what the macOS release schedule looks like over the past 7 years:
- Sierra - September 20, 2016;
- High Sierra - September 25, 2017;
- Mojave - September 24, 2018;
- Catalina - October 7, 2019;
- Big Sur - November 12, 2020;
- Monterey - October 25, 2021;
- Ventura - October 24, 2022.
Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman also notesthat release iOS And iPadOS 17 this year will also be simultaneous - unlike last year. The release dates for the new tvOS and visionOS have not yet been announced.
