1. “When I needed money, I took the first part-time job that came along: making wooden bases for snowboards and skateboards. This was the beginning of my unexpected career, and 12 years later I continue to work as a carpenter, ” 123Fake_St.
2. “I was flying to Costa Rica to go on a long backpacking trip, but my sister convinced me to go to Guatemala – she said I should definitely see this country. I obeyed, and 10 years later I'm still in Guatemala, I have a son and a life that I could not even imagine, ” Old_Insect.
3. “I got on the wrong train in a new city when I was going to get an entry-level job - I didn’t want it, but I needed it to live. Then the GPS in the phones still did not really work, so I asked the first person I met for directions.
It turned out that he needed to go in the same direction. We got on the train together and talked about the movies we like. He turned out to be an aspiring film director (maximum beginner), and I just loved cinema without any education or desire to break into the industry. As a result, we became neighbors and colleagues, and two years ago we sold our first film to IFC Films,” — SrgtSquarePants.

One colleague eventually refused and I thought that the second one would not go either, but we found out that both were very hungry, so we went to eat together. We worked together for a year and always got along well, but that dinner felt like a first date. We felt so good and talked so much that we didn't notice that the restaurant was closed and the staff had already started cleaning. Soon after that, we realized that we were in love, and have been together for 6 years, ” stereotypedhonesty.
6. “I worked in a kindergarten for a year after graduation, and then I didn’t even plan to go to university. It so happened that a child with problems with speech and communication became attached to me, so I agreed to periodically work with his speech therapist, although in fact I was just an assistant teacher. This ignited my interest in the language, and I decided to try to enter the linguist.
My graduation grades were so-so, but that year they were testing a new system: 50% of the places were given not for points, but for motivational essays, in order to combat a large number of expulsions from the faculty. I passed, and the next year the system was recognized as non-working and canceled. Now I have a master's degree in linguistics and from this semester I will start teaching at the same university. If I applied in any other year, my chances of getting in would be like the chances of winning the lottery.” Monsieuer Rud.
7. “I was blogging, but I couldn’t figure out the HTML code and asked the author of another blog to help me. We had never communicated before and lived 1600 km from each other. Four years later, we are married, bought a house, and we have a child, ” Manejar.
8. “I was at a conference and went outside to smoke. Ran into a friend who introduced me to a guy who was with him at a conference. This guy talked me into submitting my resume for a position at his company, and 6 months later I got a job with them. It was the start of my career and helped me change direction.” The_Dude311.
9. “I was on an online dating site and regularly went on dates, but to no avail, I was about to give up. I was going to cancel the appointment, but I thought that I would still go to it, and if it was another failure, I would take a break. As a result, the date lasted 8 hours, and now, 15 years later, we are still together, ” Rolling Beardo.
10. “I adopted a dog from a shelter. I did not want to have an animal, but my wife persuaded me, and I agreed. My mental health has improved by about 1000% since we took her. Feeding, walking and playing with the dog every day keeps me going and I no longer feel empty when I'm alone." throwawaymarineslolo.
