Google Photos now has secret folders
Miscellaneous / / August 29, 2023
Just in case you need to hide something.
On the Google Photos web and iOS mobile app appeared the Locked Folder feature, which has been available to Android users for a long time.
The option allows you to hide certain content from prying eyes and protect it with a password. It also automatically removes private photos and videos from the main gallery, albums, search, "Memories" and various applications that have access to your pictures - this should help avoid awkward situations when scrolling through different libraries.
In addition, users can now back up such folders. When the feature existed only on Android, this feature was not available, which led to difficulties when changing gadgets and transferring content from one to another.
We protect this data with multiple layers of security, including advanced encryption technologies such as HTTPS.

If you still do not trust backup and are worried about moving your content to the cloud, then this feature can be turned off. Then the contents of closed folders will be stored only on the device itself.
Google Photos has also updated its settings page. Now it's easier to find and configure privacy controls there, the developers say.
The rollout of new features has already begun. They should become public in the near future.
