"Metalocalypse: Doomstar Army" is a worthy conclusion to the cult series

Dethklok are back to save the world.
On August 22, the premiere of the film "Metalocalypse: Army of the Fatal Star" took place.
The animated comedy series Metalocalypse ran from 2006 to 2012. He talked about the world's most famous death metal band, Dethklok. Its popularity was so great that all world processes depended on the musicians - up to the economy, since Dethklok's budget was comparable to that of Belgium. Various evil forces are trying to use the heroes to subjugate the world, but the metalworkers constantly repulse the villains and save humanity, killing random fans along the way.
In 2013, the metal opera Metalocalypse: Requiem of a Fatal Star was released, after which the project was completed. Now, 10 years later, another film has appeared.
Original series creators Brandon Small and Tommy Blacha worked on the film. After the completion of the first Metalocalypse, both careers stalled, so returning to a successful project looks like a logical step.
Dethklok leader Nathan Explosion must fulfill the prophecy and
write a songthat will save humanity. However, he is hindered by people who want to bring the end of the world closer. The hurt ego also interferes - his love refuses to marry him. But the musician must find the strength within himself to save the world.Loyalty to style
It's been 10 years since the last episode, but the movie looks like there was no pause. Unless the quality has changed - Metalocalypse: Doomstar Army is definitely better than the boring opera that ended the story in 2013. At the same time, the sentimentality inherent in the opera is growing, but at the same time it does not look ridiculous.
Metalocalypse: Doomstar Army is like a really good extended episode. Not surprisingly, the plot of the film is based on the idea of six episodes - the story was originally planned to be shown in one of the seasons.
Unlike the opera, there are fewer musicwhich is definitely a big plus. "Requiem" was overloaded with songs, which made it look heavy. This time, Small and Blacha managed to strike a balance.
Context influence
The series started in 2006, when metal in its various manifestations (from nu metal to extreme metal sub-genres) was popular all over the world. Now the music from "Metalocalypse" looks a bit marginal, and the irony over genre seems to be taken for granted. In the end, more or less everyone knows about Burzum, and not so much about the music, but about the comical image.
In the first season, musicians Metallica, Arch Enemy, Carcass, Cannibal Corpse, Nevermore, King Diamond appeared in the series - quite the stars for 2006. In the new film, there are only a couple of members of famous bands - it will not work to lure the viewer with the guitarist Anthrax, so you can focus on the script.
It seems that the marginality of metal even benefits the new film. Screenwriters are no longer obliged to play along with the general public, because a series about a metal band cannot have a general public. Therefore, it is possible to joke and make references within a narrow subculture.
Even if you do not take into account the heredity of the series, then "Metalocalypse: Doomstar Army" is quite watchable cartoon. A solid plot, understandable conflicts, funny jokes - this is not a great work, but a job well done. You can also watch the film separately from the series - a long pause forces the authors to recall the entire context in the first minutes.
