August 23, 2023 is now forever in Indian history.
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) robotic interplanetary station Chandrayaan-3 has soft-landed on the Moon. India became the fourth country that succeeded (after the USSR, the USA and China).
Telemetry data from the Mission Control Center and images from the Chandrayaan-3 camera were broadcast in real time. At its peak, there were about 6.4 million viewers.
The lander with the Pragyan lunar rover landed at the South Pole of the Moon. The rover should work there for at least two weeks, transmitting data to Earth through the orbiter.
The six-wheeled lunar rover received two navigation cameras and two scientific instruments: the LIBS laser spectrometer, which determines the elemental composition of the soil, and the APXS alpha-X-ray spectrometer for contact determination of the composition breeds. One of the main goals of the mission is to search for water ice.
The Chandrayaan-3 station was launched into near-Earth orbit on July 14, the course for the Moon was taken on July 31, and already on August 5 it entered the desired satellite orbit.
The material is being added.
