MacBook and iMac may get Face ID
Miscellaneous / / August 16, 2023
Apple registered another patent application describing MacBooks and iMacs with Face ID technology. The document contains images showing the design of future novelties with a built-in face unlock system.
The company notes that computers need reliable mechanisms to protect users' personal data. As a solution, Apple considers "a light pattern recognition module, consisting of a light detector and an infrared emitter." You can design it in the form of a “notch, circle, ellipse, polygon, series of polygons or something similar”, but always on the display or next to it. In the drawings, it is located at the top of the screen and looks like a "bangs", as in the iPhone and some MacBooks.
When the MacBook and iMac with Face ID may appear is still unknown. But do not forget that the registration of a patent does not mean the mandatory implementation of the technology described in it. Often such ideas remain only on paper.
However, the fact that laptops running Windows 11 from a variety of brands already have access to the technology face recognition for locking and unlocking, gives hope that something similar will soon appear in similar Apple devices.
