Apple Watch X in development - a watch with a new design and magnetic bracelets

In the new issue of the Power On mailing list, Bloomberg columnist Mark Gurman shared the first data on a device called the Apple Watch X. Like the iPhone X in 2017, the watch will celebrate its 10th anniversary and offer the first major redesign in years.

Little information is available about the device itself. Industry sources say Apple is working on thinner watch cases as well as alternative ways to attach straps. From the first to the eighth generation, the principle of fastening did not change, so all straps are backwards compatible - provided that the dimensions of the case match.

But Apple doesn't like the existing system eating up space in the watch's case, which could be used to increase the battery or include new sensors. Now the company is betting on a new magnetic mount and is considering various options for its implementation, but it is not yet clear whether it will be possible to implement the new system by the release of the anniversary watch.

The Apple Watch X could be the company's first watch with a microLED screen that outperforms OLED in terms of clarity and color accuracy. Also, it is in them that they can include the function of monitoring blood pressure, rumors about which walk for several months now.

Gurman is not sure about the release date, as the original Apple Watch was shown in 2014, but was released for sale only in 2025. Considering that this year Apple Watch Series 9, it is logical to assume that X will be released in 2024 - unless Apple decides to skip the year.

According to Gurman, this is quite possible. The ninth generation will be almost identical to the eighth, except for a faster processor and new colors. The insider himself calls it "the most insignificant update in the history of the product." And Apple understands this, thinking about the rarer release of the new Apple Watch, but with more serious differences. This has already been done with the iPad, which originally came out annually, and now - about once every 18 months.
