So that users do not have to scroll through the entire video, evaluating its content.
YouTube Launches testing a new AI feature that allows you to automatically create a short summary of the video. Such summaries have begun to appear on the watch and search pages, but are only available to a limited number of English-language videos and viewers.
On the YouTube support page saysthat the AI-generated retelling will allow users to decide if the video is right for them. But the developers also note, “While we hope these summaries are helpful and give you a quick overview of what the video is about, they do not replace the video descriptions (which the authors write!).”
Screenshots of such retellings have not yet been published, so it is difficult to say how viewers will be able to distinguish the AI summary from the content of the author himself.
AI-powered YouTube video summarization tools already exist, including Clipnote.ai, Skipit.ai, and Scrivvy. However, they are far from perfect, especially with very long videos. That is why Google hopes to offer its solution.
