Grinding of Metal - the film adaptation of the cult game resembles a mixture of "Mad Max" and "Deadpool"

It was an amazing adrenaline rush.
On July 27, Peacock hosted the premiere of the first season of Metal Grinder.
Twisted Metal is a classic survival game originally released in 1995 on the PlayStation. The player had to drive a car with weapons, the main goal was to destroy the same rivals. Aggressive music, vulgar humor and a bunch of explosions were added to a simple idea.
The showrunners of the series are Rhett Reese (co-writer of two parts of Deadpool, Zombieland: Control Shot) and Paul Revnick (Welcome to Zombieland). Starring Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Stephanie Beatrice (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Thomas Haden Church (Hi Daddy, New Year), Neve Campbell (Scream).
The world plunged into chaos. Instead of the USA, there are several unconnected large cities surrounded by large walls. John Do moves between these points - he transports parcels. One day he is hired by Raven, the head of one of the cities. She offers him to travel across the country to deliver something important, and in return he will receive citizenship. John Do agrees, although he understands that he is in mortal danger.
Very bright and dynamic
Grinding Metal tries to make the most of the two things that defined the original game - cars and guns. The authors do it with teenage enthusiasm, inventing strange guns and rockets waiting in the wings on the roofs of cars. Unsurprisingly, the series begins with a car chase, and a rather peculiar one: cars shooting each other under Cypress Hill. Similar scenes occur about twice
for a series. They may not always be original, but they are dynamic nonetheless.
But gradually the action comedy turns into a road movie and even a rom-com. But even in this case, enthusiasm and aggression do not go anywhere - they just move into dialogues.
Peculiar humor
There are a lot of jokes in Metal Screech, and almost all of them are aggressive. The topic of humor is shooting genitals, picking at melted brains, incest and everything that would make Beavis and Butt-head laugh. Many (very many) jokes are not funny, but they are helped by assertiveness.
At the same time, the writers treat references to the original game with tenderness - there is no place for insults and sarcasm here. Either a PlayStation disc falls on the car, or the hero speeds up the car, calling a cheat code. The psychopathic clown Sweet Tooth, who graces the covers of the series, also makes an appearance.
Excellent Anthony Mackie
The protagonist is not the most complex character (although the question is how complex the hero of this universe can be). However, Anthony Mackie amazingly transforms John Doe into a person to empathize with.
Not without a second bottom: for every dramatic moment there is a ton of sarcasm from Do himself. Perhaps, it is from the main character that one can guess that among the producers there are the authors of Deadpool. Maki manages to balance between a man with a difficult fate and a crazy prankster driver.
Grind of Metal is a fairly honest series. The first series will help to understand whether it is worth watching further. Aggressive humor and crazy (in the teenage sense) atmosphere will scare some away and attract others. Well, Anthony Mackie adds a bit of sentimentality to the story - enough to turn a stupid game into a good series.
