A new study has shown that people can live significantly longer with only minor changes in their habits. And this is true even if you start acting at a mature age. About it writes The Guardian.
The sooner the better, but even if you make a small change in your 40s, 50s, or 60s, it will still be beneficial.

The study is based on data from questionnaires and medical records collected between 2011 and 2019. The records covered over 700,000 people aged 40 to 99. Nguyen and her colleagues analyzed the data to determine which lifestyle factors were associated with increased life expectancy.
8 factors were identified:
- Eat well.
- Avoid cigarettes.
- Get good sleep.
- Be physically active.
- Manage stress.
- Drink less alcohol.
- Break free from opioid addiction.
- Maintain positive social relationships.
“Men and women who followed all eight therapeutic habits could increase life expectancy by 23.7 or 22.6 years, respectively, at age 40 compared with those who did not change their lifestyle,” the authors write research.
The scientists added that the most destructive habits were drug use and smoking. People with these lifestyle factors had a 30-45% higher risk of death during the study period. And stress, excessive alcohol consumption, poor sleep and nutrition increased the risks by 20%.
The observational nature of this study means that the work cannot prove a causal relationship between the identified factors and differences in life expectancy. This is just a correlation, but quite interesting for understanding the importance of a healthy lifestyle, the researchers added.
