Apple wants to make the iPhone completely frameless
Miscellaneous / / July 25, 2023
It could be an iPhone 16 Pro or 17 Pro.
It looks like the iPhone 15 Pro with thinner bezels will be the first step towards frameless iPhone. By data South Korean edition of The Elec, Apple sent Samsung Display and LG Display requests to develop an OLED screen that will completely get rid of the frames on the front panel of the iPhone.
According to previous reports, the iPhone 15 Pro should get "the thinnest bezels around the screen in the industry." This will increase the display diagonal without increasing the size of smartphones: up to 6.2 and 6.8 inches in the Pro and Pro Max models, respectively (versus 6.1 and 6.7 in generations 12-14).
Getting rid of the frames completely will further increase the size of the display without making the smartphone more cumbersome.
The same source claims that Apple is not interested in the curved screens (also called waterfalls) that are used in some Android smartphones. The Elec cites two reasons for this decision. Firstly, when bending, a magnifying glass effect is obtained: the picture is optically distorted. Secondly, such a display is less resistant to physical impact. Considering that Apple has been promoting the reliability of protection in recent years
