Why push-button dialers should become the norm in our all-too-digital world
Miscellaneous / / July 20, 2023
Modern smartphones solve some of our problems, but create others. And something needs to be done about it.
In a technology-dominated world, it's getting harder not to be online. Many of us enjoy smartphone most of the daylight hours, and then take away a couple more hours of sleep.
We are used to follow the lives of other people in social networks and communicate in the same place or in instant messengers. Instead of calls, we send messages or record voice calls, instead of live meetings, we arrange videoconferencing. Sometimes we can’t even ask how people we know are doing, because we have enough of their photos on Instagram* or posts on Twitter. Often, such behavior is an attempt to somehow compensate for the lack of time and effort. But often going online is a conscious choice.
Smartphones have greatly improved our lives - and it is unlikely that anyone will be able to completely refuse them - but they have also worsened it.
They have greatly changed our interaction with other people and perception of the real world.
I, as a user of a bunch of gadgets, miss the times when people more often communicated live, did not consume so much information garbage and did not feel vulnerable when the phone ran out of power. If you too know these feelings, then perhaps it's time to think about switching to a simple push-button mobile phone. And that's what makes him good.
"Dialer" will make your world less digital
Now it is almost impossible to get out of the online completely. Too much migrated to the Internet, ranging from working communication and ending with the solution of social issues through the "Gosuslugi". But it is quite possible to reduce the time spent on the Web - a simpler mobile phone will help with this.
Try temporarily not using your smartphone and switch to a feature phone. Leave the online activity for the computer if you need to, but do not take the Internet with you. There is life offline, and it is much more real than the endless consumption of content through gadgets.
With the "dialer" you will begin to communicate more
Yes, without a smartphone, you will have to call people more often or talk to them live. With this format of communication, you will not have time to think about the answers, as in the messenger.
You will have to decide a lot on the go, make mistakes and create awkward pauses, but over time, your communication skills pumped. So in your resume, you with a clear conscience will be able to enter sociability.
"Dialer" will give you more free time
Switching to a “dialer” will add to your life not only the joy of live communication. Refusing to constantly scroll through news feeds and social networks will free up time for leisure.
How to use this watch is up to you: you can go to bed sleep early, pay more attention to loved ones, start going to yoga, or finally read all those books that you planned.
"Dialer" will reduce the flow of unnecessary information
Without a smartphone you will stop doomscroll on the way to work - you will start to look at people more, to reflect, to notice the details of everyday life that you did not pay attention to before.
This is not only about social networks and instant messengers, but also about applications that eat up your time. Try switching to a phone that simply does not have any programs. To stand in line for a dose caffeine, fueling one of your addictions, you did not take your smartphone out of your pocket to be distracted by the news, fueling another addiction - FOMO.
With the "dialer" you can enjoy simple moments
Perhaps someone will say that a smartphone is not only the Internet and applications, but also a camera, for example. Yes, we are used to shoot beauty around, record videos from concerts, take pictures of sunsets and your favorite pets. But what about just enjoying these moments not through the screen of a smartphone?
Ask yourself: Do you remember all those concerts that you recorded on your smartphone? Maybe you were busy staging a beautiful shot, so that later there would be something to publish on social networks? How often have you watched all these videos? Barely more than once, probably when something heavy needed to be removed to free up memory.
Pay more attention to the moment you would like to capture. play with your dog, scratch the cat behind the ear, hug your loved ones, stick to the impressive views. Everything that you want to photograph or record is with you here and now, and you can’t imagine a better moment to enjoy it.
"Dialer" can improve your mental health
You might be wondering why not just put your smartphone into perpetual Do Not Disturb mode and use it exclusively for calls. But that's not how it usually works. We are only human, and smartphones and apps are designed to be addictive. On the days when we feel low or emaciated, the temptation to get a smartphone for a quick and easy release of dopamine becomes too strong. There is no escape from this.
Research increasingly confirm the negative impact social media has on mental health of people. This is not surprising: after reading the news, sometimes there is a feeling that everything is bad and the world is about to collapse. And that is why we need "dialers". We need something that will help us to at least temporarily disconnect from the fake digital world in order to feel connected to the real one.
Zvonilka lets you try a digital detox
We can't pause the world, but we can force logout using a simple phone instead of a smart one. This decision will radically change the usual scenarios of behavior.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want smartphones to disappear or stop getting better. Rather, I would like the practice of using simple feature phones to digital detox has become the norm. Simple phone - only for calls and short messages. No cameras, no apps, no internet.
Of course, it would be great if simple dialers did not look like something from the early 2000s, but became modern and stylish. Like how Mudita Pure or Light phone.
An increase in the number of such devices could increase the popularity of dialers and their chances of becoming an additional handset for many of us. So that in moments when we want to get offline, we just take this phone with us and stay in touch, but live more in the real, not the digital world.
What do you think? Could you use the dialer as your main phone, or at least a temporary one? Share your opinion in the comments.
