Apple is secretly developing an analogue of ChatGPT

Chatbots are already being used internally, but consumers won't see them anytime soon.
Apple is testing "Apple GPT" and developing generative AI tools to compete with OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT. About it writes Bloomberg columnist Mark Gurman, citing company sources.
Apple does not yet have a clear strategy for releasing technology to consumers, but several teams are involved in development at once.
According to the source, the iPhone maker has created its own platform for creating large language models (LLMs), the artificial intelligence-based systems that underlie ChatGPT and Google Bard.
With this platform, known as Ajax, Apple has also created a chatbot service that some engineers refer to as "Apple GPT". It has been in testing since last year, but internal rollout has been halted due to security issues.
Now some employees of the company use chatbots to create product prototypes. But there is also an important caveat for them: any AI output cannot be used to develop user-facing features.
Apple employees say the company's tool essentially copies Bard, ChatGPT and BingAI and does not include any new features or technologies. The system is available as a web application and has a simplified design not intended for public use. As such, Apple has no plans to release it to consumers at this time, although it is actively working to improve the base models.
Generative AI promises to change how people interact with phones, computers and other technologies. And Apple devices, which generated nearly $320 billion in revenue last fiscal year, could lose customers if the company does not keep pace with advances in artificial intellect.
