How to get rid of condensation on the toilet bowl
Miscellaneous / / July 15, 2023
To deal with the problem, you have to find its cause.
Why is there condensation on the toilet bowl?
Droplets on the surface of the cistern may collect due to the high humidity air in the bathroom. This often happens when the toilet is installed in the same room as a bath or shower. After water procedures, excess moisture does not have time to evaporate and settles on different surfaces in the room. The situation can be aggravated by drying clothes in the toilet. Also, increased humidity and, as a result, the formation of condensate can be facilitated by poor ventilation or its complete absence in the restroom.
Another reason is temperature difference. The room is usually warm, and cold water enters the tank, and as a result, drops. The problem often occurs in autumn and winter, when the heating is turned on, and ice water flows through the pipes.
Sometimes a plumbing problem can be the culprit. If water is constantly drained into the toilet, even in a small volume, the tank will continuously fill. In this case, the liquid in it simply does not have time to warm up to room temperature, and condensate begins to accumulate on the tank.
How to get rid of condensation on the toilet bowl
Try the tips in turn until something works, or apply several at once.
1. Check the health of the plumbing
Make sure there are no breakages in the toilet. Press the drain button and watch how long the water leaves and the tank fills up. If this process does not stop, contact a specialist or try to fix the problem yourself - you will find detailed instructions with a video in this article. Most likely, repair of shutoff valves or a complete replacement of this mechanism will be required.
2. Examine the state of ventilation
In any apartment, by default, there are ventilation holes in the bathroom. Sometimes during repair the owners hide them under the finishing materials to improve the appearance of the room. But this leads to a failure of air circulation. If your closet has a ventilation window, free it from the trim. Perhaps this will immediately solve the problem of condensation.
If the hole is in place, inspect the grate and clean it of dust and dirt that accumulates and interferes with the outflow of air. You can also improve circulation by installing a fan or a ventilation grill on the door.
3. Reduce air humidity
Try not to dry clothes in the bathroom and turn off the heated towel rail if there is one. Also, don't bother with floor heating. This raises the temperature in the room, which contributes to the formation of condensation. After taking a bath or shower in a combined bathroom, leave the door open so the steam will disappear faster. It will not be superfluous to wipe the surfaces dry - the walls of the shower, the bathroom, the mirror, the shelves.
An easy way to reduce humidity is to install a dehumidifier. This special device collects water molecules from the air.
What to buy
- Compact dehumidifier from Libhof, 3,899 rubles →
- Air dryer controlled from a smartphone from Kitfort, 14,990 rubles →
- Air dryer with automatic shutdown timer from Neoclima, 15,599 rubles →
- Air dryer with carrying handle from Tefal, 21,985 rubles →
- Air dryer with a carbon filter from Zanussi, 22,754 rubles →
4. Upgrade or replace your toilet
Try to replace the usual tank drain with a half one, which is installed in the form of two buttons. After pressing one, part of the water at room temperature will remain inside, which will be diluted with a new portion of cold. Thus, the temperature difference between the tank and the room will not be so large.
A more radical method replacement a conventional toilet on a wall-hung installation. In this design, the drain tank is hidden in the wall. In addition, modern models use anti-condensation technologies, so even behind the wall moisture will not accumulate.
5. Insulate the tank
An additional layer of insulation will not allow the tank to cool, even if ice water gets into it. Drain all the liquid from it, remove the shut-off valves and clean the walls from plaque and moisture. Then cover the inside of the tank with polyethylene foam, polystyrene foam or insulating material.
Another option is to glue the tank with a layer of insulation on the outside.
True, it will look quite specific. This method is suitable if the design is hidden in the locker.
