She can help with the performance of famous compositions or take the repertoire into her own hands.
A new interactive project Viola the Bird has appeared on the Google Arts & Culture platform. This is a virtual bird that plays the legendary cello with the help of the user. It works like a rhythm game: you need to move the bow to the notes that appear on the screen. At the same time, the game is based on a neural network, so if you switch the note at the wrong time, the sound will still go.
In addition to the concert mode, in which various songs are continuously played, there is a freestyle mode in which the user himself plays what he wants. If desired, the “performance” can be recorded on video.
The creation of Viola the Bird was helped by violinists and cellists from different countries. A neural network was trained on their game so that it “understands” how musical compositions work and how the body moves when they are performed. Try it yourself!
