Phoenix, nods and chain: Emoji Design 15.1 unveiled

emojipedia introduced preliminary designs for new emojis that are being considered for the release of Emoji 15.1. These are 108 new emoticons (considering variants with different skin colors), which are based on familiar characters.

Many emoji are hybrids of several existing ones. So, we are waiting for the following combinations:

• 🙂‍↔️ - horizontal nod of the head;
• 🙂‍↕️ - vertical nod of the head;
• 🐦‍🔥 - phoenix bird;
• 🍋‍🟩 - lime;
• 🍄‍🟫 - brown mushroom;
• 🔗‍💥 - broken chain;
• 🧑‍🧑‍🧒 - family: two adults and a child;
• 🧑‍🧒‍🧒 - family: an adult and two children;
• 🧑‍🧒 - family: adult and child;
• 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒 — family: two adults and two children.

In addition to these hybrid emojis, the Emoji 15.1 package offers variants of the existing human emojis, facing the other way. So, the running man emoji 🏃 will get a new version in which the man will run to the right.

Please note that these are not final images. Not all proposed emoji will be accepted by manufacturers like Apple, Google, Samsung, and the design of some may undergo major changes. In addition, family portraits will not appear on Microsoft devices, as similar depersonalized icons have been used in the system for many years.

Emoji Pack 15.1 is due out in 2023-2024 depending on the platform.
