Smartphone-sized Onyx Boox Palma e-reader unveiled
Miscellaneous / / July 12, 2023
Onyx has announced a new e-reader Book Palma with an E Ink screen. The novelty looks like a smartphone with a black and white screen. And the feeling is partially correct: in addition to reading books and documents, the device also offers calls and communication in social networks. But the novelty does not reach the title of a smartphone due to the lack of a slot for a SIM card: it completely relies on Wi-Fi.
The pocket reader received a 6.13-inch E Ink Carta 1200 display with a resolution of 1648 × 824 pixels with a protective glass on top. Responsible for performance is an unnamed octa-core Qualcomm chipset, complemented by 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. You can add storage space thanks to the microSD slot - cards up to 1 TB are supported.
There are two microphones and speakers for audio playback, calls and voice messages recording. The side buttons work in the mode of turning pages and adjusting the volume, depending on the application used. There is no front camera here, but there is a main one on the rear panel: with a resolution of 16 megapixels and an LED flash.
Onyx Boox Palma runs on Android 11 and supports downloading apps from Google Play. The 3,950 mAh battery provides up to 14 days of battery life.
There is no 3.5 mm headphone jack: you will need a wired one with a USB-C connector or a wireless model with a Bluetooth connection.
Onyx Boox Palma was priced at $280 (≈25,400 rubles). The reader will go on sale in August, and now it can be pre-ordered on official website manufacturer with a $30 discount. The package includes a white silicone case.
